George Parnell Harlin, age 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Brinkley, Arkansas on August 18, 2025. He was born in the family home of Pauline and Carl Harlin on May 5, 1945, in Wheatley, Arkansas.
George attended the Brinkley Public Schools and even though he only received education through the eighth grade, George was a lifelong learner and hard worker. He married his lifelong partner, Mary Rodgers, on June 5, 1979, in Marianna. Together, they made their home in Brinkley, where George contributed to his community through his work as a farmer. George's hobbies were as diverse as his interests, ranging from fishing to hunting, along with working in his garden and witnessing the fruits of his labor.
In October 1965, George proudly served his country after being inducted into the United States Army. He worked as an electrician during his overseas service in Vietnam. He later transferred to the Army reserves, reporting for annual training in St. Louis, Missouri. George's dedication and skill earned him accommodation for marksmanship with the M-14 Rifle and the National Defense Medal. He was honorably discharged in September 1971.
Above all, George was a devoted family man, cherishing the times spent with his loved ones, especially creating memories with his 44 grandchildren. His love for his family was the cornerstone of his life, and his legacy will live on through them.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Pauline Harlin, son Michael Paul Harlin, daughter Carla Simon, and brother Dale Harlin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary Harlin, and sons, Thomas Rodgers (Amanda) of Higden, Greg Harlin and fiancé Janice, of Brinkley, and Larry Don Harlin (Tabitha) of Moro, brother Joe Harlin of Lonoke, and his 44 cherished grandchildren.
