I miss you already and have a safe journey home, tell my grandma and aunt I said hello.

Granddaddy, I love you and I’m going to miss you so much. It’s going to be hard adjusting to life without you. Knowing you’re no longer here breaks my heart but I’m thankful you were able to live a long, beautiful life and make it to 94 years old. What a blessing. You were a great granddaddy, a strong father, and one of the funniest people I’ve ever known. You had a way of making everyone laugh, even in tough times, and your sense of humor was just one of the many things that made you so...

Sending love and prayers to all of Uncle George's family!

My condolences and prayers are with you during the lost of your love one.

George's Obituary

With hearts full of love and profound gratitude, we celebrate the extraordinary life and lasting legacy of George Lee Reid Sr., who peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on March 31, 2025.

Born on August 24, 1930, in Suffolk, Virginia, to the late Earma Reid and Charlie Reid Sr., George was a pillar of strength, wisdom, and compassion. He lived a life grounded in faith, family, and service—marked by a quiet dignity that spoke volumes and a spirit that touched every soul he encountered.

A dedicated and hardworking man, George devoted many years of loyal service to the Norfolk Navy Shipyard and later retired from Pioneer Southern Inc. His work ethic was only rivaled by the kindness of his heart. He found deep joy in life’s simplest moments—gardening in the sun, sharing laughter on the porch, or preparing his beloved sweet potato pudding for those he held dear.

A faithful servant of God, George was a cherished member of The Upper Room Holiness Church in Suffolk, VA. His unwavering belief in the power of prayer and his steadfast commitment to uplifting others made him a source of comfort, encouragement, and spiritual strength. Whether through a warm meal, a wise word, or a gentle smile, George embodied love in action.

He was also known for his special connection to animals, especially his beloved dog, Missy Reid, and his tender care for the neighborhood cats and chickens. His nurturing heart extended far beyond his immediate family—his home and heart were always open.

George’s love for his family was deep and abiding. He was a devoted husband to the late Susie Mizell Reid, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. His legacy of faith, resilience, and unconditional love continues through the lives of all who had the blessing of knowing him.

He now rests in eternal peace, reunited with his wife Susie, his parents Earma and Charlie, his sons Roderick Reid, Alton L. Reid, and Ernest Eure, and his granddaughters Minister Parneisha Gatling and Demetrius M. Reid.

Left to cherish his memory are his children George A. Reid Jr. (Cheryl), Elder Lenora Reid, Broderick Reid, Alvis Reid, Joanne Calvie (Dwayne), Darnell Reid (Sherry), Iris Reid, Pastor Fletcher Reid (Evangelist Tonia), Elmore Cooke (Agnes), and Daralynn Reid; his brothers Charlie Reid and William Reid; his 43 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren. He is lovingly remembered by six devoted nieces—Pastor Virginia Mizell, Precena Wiggins, Sandra Ruffin, Hazel Warren, Martha Parker, and Linda Reid—and three devoted nephews—Duncan Ruffin, Harold Ruffin, and Virgil Wiggins. He also leaves behind many special nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends, including the late Harold Parker, Naneey Parker, Jame William, Sonny Franklin, Breon Harris, and Chester Walton.

George Lee Reid Sr.’s life was a beautiful reflection of faith, love, service, and joy. Though his physical presence will be missed beyond measure, his legacy will live on through generations. His spirit will continue to guide, comfort, and inspire all who knew and loved him.

Rest well, George. Your race is finished, your faith kept, and your love eternal.
