Gerald Lee Hicks was the second son and third child born in Liberty, Texas to Leroy (Floop) and Maudrie (M. E.) Baldwin Hicks on Tuesday, October 16, 1956. Mamie Sip Baldwin, his maternal grandmother, shared in rearing him in a Christian home.Gerald confessed Christ and was baptized into the Trinity Valley Baptist Church by the late Rev. O. J. Beasley, Sr. and grew up participating in the youth department. Later under the leadership of Rev. Ben E. Andrews, he was ordained as a deacon and faithfully gave of his time, talent and treasure.He attended West Liberty Schools until integration and graduated from Liberty High School in May of 1976. Popular while in school, Gerald shined in athletics. He lettered in varsity football, excelling as nose guard and kicker.He met the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Brenda Morris, and they were married, January 28, 1977, recently celebrating 45 years of marriage. The couple was blessed with three sons. Gerald loved his “Bren” and she loved her “Hicks.”Gerald made a career as a Wastewater engineer for over 40 years. Beginning at the City of Liberty, he was recently recognized for his tenure by the Guadalupe Blanco River Authority in Central Texas/Austin, where he retired.Knowing that there’s no place like home, they found land, moved back to Liberty and built a home. After a brief illness Gerald passed away peacefully at home on Monday night, August 15, 2022.Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Karen, Lorraine, and Sheila Joyce Payne.He leaves to cherish his legacy and life, his devoted wife Brenda; children, Gerald Jr. (Joanna) of Fort Worth, TX; Chad (Jamie) of Humble, TX, and Jason of Austin, TX. , his beloved grandchildren Kevin, Aubrey, Avery, Landyn, Caydin, Madison, Jason, Jr., Jade, and Jaylen Hicks; his sisters, Pamela, Mamie, and Marzetta Hicks and Laverne (Joe) Walker, and a brother, Sammie (Mary) Hicks, an uncle, G. W. (Pavia)Baldwin; and his in-loves, Michael (Tammy) Morris, Chandra Morris, Anthony Morris, Lawrence Morris, Debbie (Pastor Marvin) Etheridge, and Keith Morris, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
