Not sure what to say?

Gerry and Germaine are the reason we stayed in the UP for over 21 years. The very best neighbors anyone could ever have! But more than that, they became beloved to us. A part of our life, our heritage. We learned so much about life and love from them. Genuine Love, Kindness, Humility, Contentment, Faith & more. Lessons that our Family incorporated into our lives, which have brought us much happiness. Thank You from the Andrews Family: Michael, Mary, Matthew, John & Joe.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.

Just a great person to know and learn from.
One story of many where he found a hummingbird nest with an egg in it. That summarizes Gerald’s special life.

I am so sorry for your loss. My days were a lot brighter when they involved a conversation with stubby. I was amazed at the hours this man spent working. He was such a strong, hardworking individual, he could run circles around people half his age. May God bless this most kind man and his families, Sincerely, Rex.

Gerald Frederick Stromberg

"Stubby"

October 28, 1933 ~ February 8, 2026

Age ~ 92

Gerald “Stubby” Stromberg, 92, of Gaastra, Michigan, passed away Sunday, February 8th at Aspirus Hospital in Iron River.

Stubby was born on October 28, 1933, in Stambaugh Township, the son of Charles and Linda (Westerlund) Stromberg.

He graduated from Stambaugh High School with the class of 1951.  After graduating, he worked for the Iron County Road Commission and at the Homer Waseca and Groveland Mines.  After the Groveland Mine closed, he worked for Krist Oil for several years.  He also served in the National Guard for 8 years.

He grew up on the Stromberg family farm on Baumgartner Road, where the raised beef cattle, chickens and pigs, and worked the land with horses and hard manual work.

He married his high school sweetheart, Germaine Clements on September 11, 1954, and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2024.  His dear wife, Germaine, preceded him in death on May 26, 2025.

Stubby and Germaine raised 6 children together (4 boys and 2 girls) Conrad (Colleen), Randy (Cathy), Jeff (Betty), Dale (Christy), Cindy (Dan) Wheeler, Lisa (Dale) Kuettel.

He is survived by 14 grandchildren: Aaron, Brandon (Laura), Seth (Alyssa) Stromberg, Jim (Jamie), Michelle and Ben Stromberg.  Alicia (Jake) Scholze.  Ryan Stromberg.  Aimee Cousineau.  Jake (Ashley) Wheeler.  Desiree and Marcus Wheeler.  Bethany (Troy) Klabunde.  Lacey Kuettel.  He is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.  He was preceded in death by 3 grandchildren, Mario Stromberg, Cassandra and Justin Wheeler.  Also, his brothers; Leslie and Glen Stromberg.

He had a strong work ethic that was passed on to his children.  He was a man who had a zest for life and lived it to the full.  He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and making firewood.  He took great pride in his garden, and he and Germaine enjoyed canning for many years, as well as sharing his “bounty” with others.

He will be sadly missed by family and friends, as well as his special neighbors on Nowicki Road who treated him so kindly.

The family would like to express warm appreciation to the staff at Aspirus for the compassionate care of our father.

A visitation will be held Friday, February 20th, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the Jacob’s Funeral Home in Iron River.  A service will follow at 5:00 PM with Dale Stromberg officiating.
