Geraldine “Gerry” Ann Arthur, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, just days after celebrating her 94th birthday. She was residing at Carveth Village in Middleville, Michigan. Born in Cando, North Dakota, to her parents Lyle and Leila Brightbill, Gerry grew up with a deep sense of curiosity, kindness, and resilience that shaped the rest of her life. She was preceded in death by her sister and brother‑in‑law, Lorraine (Bill) Mundy, and by her first husband, Lt. Col. Lawrence “Larry” Stone. She is survived by her twin sons and their wives, Mark and Ana Stone, and Michael and Nancy Stone; her grandson, Jain Carlo Stone; and her nieces and nephews, Steve and Jo Mundy, and Kathryn Morgan. Private graveside services will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Cando in the spring.
Above all else, Gerry was a phenomenal mother, grandmother, and aunt—steadfast, compassionate, and endlessly supportive. She never judged, always cared, and was truly present for the people she loved. She lived a rich and active life, embracing her passions wholeheartedly. Golf was one of her greatest joys, and she even competed as a semi‑pro. She traveled the world with an adventurous spirit, finding beauty and meaning in every new place. Music was another source of happiness, and she sang for many years in the St. Paul the Apostle Church Choir. Gerry was also a dedicated educator, teaching middle school and later adult education for South Kent Community Education before retiring from the State of Michigan.
