Gerard Thomas Anton, 76, died on March 30, 2026, at his home in Montclair, VA. Tom was born on October 13, 1949, in Panama, Canal Zone, while his father was serving in the Navy. He was predeceased by his parents, Jerry and Christine Anton, and his brother, John Anton. Tom leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Julia H. Anton; his sisters, Sharon Talmadge, Deborah Sugg, Christina Marrs and her husband Randall; a brother, Michael Anton and his wife Carolyn; nieces and nephews Denise Davis, Christy Talmadge, Jeff Talmadge, Kerri Hill-Cawthorne, Joe Sugg, Chris Sugg, Sarah Marrs, Richard Marrs, Randall Marrs, Paul Anton, and Stephanie Anton.Tom was a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Triangle, Virginia. He worked in the accounting departments of McDonald’s Corporation, MCI Telecommunications, and AT&T Corporation. He won awards from each of these companies. Ever the caregiver, Tom quit his job at AT&T to take care of his mother during the week. When his brother, John, became ill, he moved in with us so that Tom could take care of him.An avid golfer, he enjoyed the courses at Massanutten and Montclair. He got a hole in one on a par 3 at Massanutten. And there’s a plaque in our home to celebrate that accomplishment. Tom enjoyed seven years of season tickets to the Washington Nationals games—especially the year they took the World Series pennant in 2019.The family will receive friends for a Rosary Service and Visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, at Foster Funeral Home, 1926 High Street, Portsmouth. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 9, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 522 High Street, Portsmouth. Burial will follow at All Saints Catholic Cemetery in Portsmouth.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or the charity of your choice.
