Gladys's Obituary

Gladys Elliott Allerton, 99, died September 17, 2025. A lifelong resident of Hampton, she was born to parents Thomas and Sarah Zanders Elliott at Harris Creek, and raised in Fox Hill. Affectionally know as Glady, at age 17 she went to work at NACA (now NASA) as a typist in the purchasing dept, it was there that she met & married the love of her life, S. C. “Charlie” Allerton. Glady was a long time member of the now closed LaCrosse Memorial Presbyterian Church, Hampton and attended Community Bible Church, Newport News while she was physically able.

Glady was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Bertha  Carter; twin sister, Gloria Case; brother, Charlie Elliott; nephews, Jack & Robert Carter; and step-son, Sam Allerton.

Aunt Glady is lovingly survived by her niece, Joyce Lawrence of Hampton, her nephew, Tom Elliott of San Clemente, CA, step-daughter, Joella Allerton of Henrico, great nephews, Corey Carter, Joel Carter, Stephen Carter and great niece, Kelly Frederick and great-great nephews & nieces.  Aunt Glady gave us much attention all of our lives and we will always remember her for it.

The family would like to thank Wiselite Care for the loving care provided to Aunt Glady in the past year and a half.

A memorial service will be held at Community Bible Church, Newport News on Thursday, September 25 at 11AM. A graveside interment will be held at 1PM at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton.

Arrangements are by R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home.
