Gloria Jean Gavagan (Wilcox), age 83, of Marion, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.Funeral service will be held at Swartz Funeral Home at 1pm on Friday, March 6, 2026, Deacon Ron Kenney officiating. Visitation 11am Friday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Flint Memorial Park following the service.Gloria was born in Flint, Michigan, at St. Joseph Hospital, the daughter of Gladys Rose Wilcox (Parrott) and John William Wilcox. She spent most of her life in her hometown of Flint, where she built a life centered on faith, family, and friendship.On November 14, 1959, she married the love of her life, James Gavagan. Together they shared 66 devoted years of marriage. Jim worked for General Motors, while Gloria dedicated herself to being a homemaker — skillfully running their household and managing the family’s finances, running both with care and wisdom. After Jim retired from General Motors in March 1993, they moved to Marion, Michigan, where they spent the remainder of their lives together. Gloria lovingly cared for Jim until his passing on November 14, 2025, their anniversary.Gloria was a longtime member of the Flint Bowman, where she and Jim formed treasured, lifelong friendships. She was an avid quilter, an excellent cook and baker, and truly a jack of all trades. Gloria loved camping and especially looked forward to the annual Wilcox Family reunion each year.The heart of her family, Gloria was a proud and devoted matriarch. She was a wonderful mother and truly shined in her role as Grandma. She was known for sneaking sweets to her grandchildren, working on puzzles with them, and making each one feel uniquely loved.She is survived by her five children: Rosemary Gavagan of Chesaning; James Gavagan Jr. (Arlene) of Cookeville, Tennessee; John Gavagan of Lansing; Donald Gavagan (Melissa) of Alger; and Gerri Gavagan of Grand Blanc. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren: Denise, Lisa, Adam, Mary, Connie, Jenee, Zachary, Megan, Joshua, Katie, Ryan, Allie, Lauren, and Nick; 16 great-grandchildren: Julia, Joseph, Jacob, Matthew, Daniel, Katelyn, David, Phoebe, Harley, Bella, Gavin, Zoe, Leo, Brayden, Blakely, and Baylor; two great-great-grandchildren, Oliver and Westin; and many beloved nieces and nephews.Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim; her parents; and her siblings, Marion, Agnes, Marjorie, Beverly, Robert, James, and John Jr.Her legacy of love, strength, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
