With profound and unimaginable sadness, we share that Grant Tentis, 63, passed away unexpectedly on December 4, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona, surrounded by the family who loved him so deeply. Grant suffered a sudden heart attack, leaving a tremendous hole in our hearts, but also an enduring legacy filled with kindness, humor, and joy.
Born on April 19, 1962, Grant grew into a man whose presence was unforgettable. He had a rare gift, within minutes of meeting him, he could make you smile. Friends, colleagues, and even strangers often said the same thing: Grant was one of the nicest, funniest, and most genuine people they had ever known.
For 31½ years, Grant shared a beautiful marriage with his wife, Michele. Together, they built a life full of fun, adventure, laughter, and unwavering partnership. Their greatest joy in the world - the thing they were most proud of was their three children. Cal, Taylor, and Morgan were Grant and Michele’s prized possessions, the heart of their home and the source of Grant’s deepest pride and happiness.
Grant built an extraordinary professional life as well. After earning his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of St. Thomas and his Master’s of Business Taxation from the University of Minnesota, he went on to a very successful career, eventually becoming a partner at Smith Schafer. He was deeply respected not only for his expertise, but for his humor, his kindness, and the genuine compassion he showed to everyone he met.
Outside of work, Grant found joy in the things he loved most. He cherished golfing, especially with his son, Cal. He was a passionate hockey lover and a dedicated youth coach, shaping countless young players with his patience and positivity. He was a loyal Minnesota Wild and Vikings fan who brought the same energy to game days that he brought to life.
One of Grant’s happiest places was the family cabin in Moose Lake - filled with pontoon rides, campfires, good friends, and endless family memories. That cabin was where Grant’s spirit shined brightest: relaxed, laughing, surrounded by the people he loved.
Grant is survived by his loving wife of 31.5 years, Michele; his children Cal, Taylor (Joe O’Brien), and Morgan; his mother, Gloria; his sister Leslie (Craig, Cole, Jackson & Brianna); and his beloved cat Crosby, along with grand-cats Moose and Bandit. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Tentis.
To know Grant was to love him, and to be loved by him was one of life’s greatest gifts. His humor, generosity, loyalty, and unmistakably fun spirit will live on in the countless people he touched. We will miss him more than words can express, but we will forever carry his laughter, his love, and his legacy forward.
Please join us to celebrate Grant's Life on Sunday, December 28th from 12pm - 4pm at Surly Brewing Company, 520 Malcolm Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414.
