It was a shock to learn of Greg's passing. I took several of his classes at William Penn in the early 90's. He was an excellent professor. He will be missed.

I remember Greg fondly from graduate school at the University of Iowa in the early to mid-1980s. I enjoyed taking classes and socializing with him. We stayed in touch over the years, mostly via Season's Greetings cards. His cards reflected a fine sense of humor. My wife, another UI colleague of Greg's, and I will miss him.

I was saddened to learn of Greg's passing. As a political science major at William Penn in the early to mid 1990s, I had many classes with him (he was my faculty adviser). Even when I decided to not go to law school, he was supportive and encouraging in the path I selected.

Gregory Alan Markko was born, January 11, 1956, in Lima, Ohio to Rudolph Edwin Markko and Pauline Leola Ruddy. He earned a bachelor?s and master?s degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, a law degree from The Ohio State University, and he studied political science at the University of Iowa. Greg came to William Penn as an assistant professor in 1989 after serving as an instructor at Texas A&M and the University of Iowa. Greg taught several different courses during his 26 years at Penn and was an engaging and challenging teacher. Greg received an Excellence in Teaching Award in 1991. He also served on several faculty governance committees and provided excellent leadership in the role of liaison to the North Central Association Higher Learning Commission. Greg loved golf, music, and art. He was a respected teacher and an admired colleague. His dry wit and social and political commentary will be missed. As was his wish, Greg?s body has been cremated and his urn will be buried next to his mother back in their home state of Ohio. Memorials may be made to a scholarship established in Greg?s honor, the Greg Markko Endowed Scholarship at William Penn University.
