Gus's Obituary

Gus N. Lefes, 90, of Dallas, TX passed away Monday, September 4, 2023 in Dallas.  Gus was born in Port Arthur, TX and was the son of the late Nickolas and Elpinki (Kefalos) Lefes. Gus graduated from Southern Methodist University and obtained degrees in Mathematics, Accounting, and Law.  After graduating college, he went to the Navy’s Officers Candidate School in Newport Rhode Island and went on to practice Law.  Later, Gus became an Actuary and made his beloved home in Dallas where he lived for over 50 years. In his free time, Gus loved going to Dallas Cowboys’ football games as well as watching the SMU Mustangs.  He was also a member of Mensa, the largest and oldest Hi-IQ society and enjoyed playing their many games. ‘Uncle’ Gus did not have any children but enjoyed his nieces and nephews immensely.  He would play games and often recite the Raven by Edgar Allan Poe to them all.  He never forgot their birthdays and had a knack for buying them the perfect gifts.  When the nieces and nephews turned 18, he would send a letter every year at Christmas to tell us that he now was sending our gifts to the local Boy’s and Girl’s Club.  He did not forget the great nieces and nephews either; sending them gifts until the moment he passed.  They were the perfect gifts too.

Gus is survived by his sibling, Bess Economos, nieces, Pamela D’Arcy and Maria Economos, nephews Steven Katsarides and George Economos, and eight grand nieces and nephews.  Gus was predeceased by his sister, Anna Katsarides, and nieces Frieda Ann Katsarides and Lea Michele Economos.
