Gwen's Obituary

Gwendolyn Britton Abner, age 88, wife of 69 years to Al Abner, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter in Salvisa. Gwen was born October 7, 1937 in Salvisa, KY to the late Gilbert Henry Britton and Myrtle Lorraine Jackson Britton.

Gwen was a member of Salvisa Christian Church, where she enjoyed singing and attending her Lady’s Groups. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was also a former Avon Representative, a job she very much enjoyed. Gwen was a 1956 graduate of Mercer County High School. She enjoyed the simple things of life, visiting her neighbors, watching TV, collecting dolls and Avon memorabilia. She and her husband Al enjoyed relaxing in their camper on Douglas Lake in Tennessee and spending time at their home on the family farm.

Along with her husband Al, Gwen is survived by her daughters, Lorrie Gritton and husband Blaine of Salvisa, and Robin Gorman of Lawrenceburg; grandsons, Anthony Gritton of Lawrenceburg and Adam Gritton and wife Tiffany of Salvisa; a great grandson, Jaydon Gritton; nephew Travis McCrystal and wife Kathryn, great nieces, Kennedy Gregory and husband Austin, Alanna McCrystal and Alyssa McCrystal; and a great-great nephew, Chandler Gregory, a nephew Tim Abner and wife Susan; great nephew, Logan Abner and wife Nerissa.

Including her parents, Gwen was preceded in death by an infant son, Alvie Anthony Abner and an infant daughter, Beth Britton Abner; a son-in-law Greg Gorman, her brother Barry Lou Britton and is wife Jewell.

Funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Bro. Rodney Stewart-Wilcox officiating. Burial will follow in the Springhill Cemetery in Harrodsburg, KY. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. till time of service at 1:00 P.M.

Casket bearers will be Anthony Gritton, Adam Gritton, Jaydon Gritton, Travis McCrystal, Austin Gregory, Clay Estes & Lucas Nance.  Honorary bearers will be Tiffany Gritton and Tim Abner.
