Our family first knew Harold as "Peter Wheat", the bread delivery man. His truck smelled of freshly baked pastry, coffee cakes, and doughnuts. Alas, our weekly staple was limited to the pedestrian "two loaves of white and a wheat." We always looked forward to his happy smile, easy banter, and kind words. Mom grew four o'clocks in her garden, and gave Harold the seeds; he would pass them along to his customers on the bread route. He told mom many years ago that 80% of the four o'clocks in...

Harold's Obituary
Harold Kooyenga, age 90, of Dyer, IN, formerly of Lansing, IL, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 1, 2018. Beloved husband of Pearl E. Kooyenga, nee Ooms. Dearest father of Lawrence (LeAnn) Kooyenga, Nancy McSweeney, and Steven (Susie) Kooyenga. Proud grandpa of 9; great-grandpa of 13. Kind uncle of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Jacob and Alice Kooyenga, three brothers, and one sister. Visitation Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. with a funeral service to be held at 6:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt.30 & Pleasant Springs Ln.)
