Harold C. Longaker, 89, of Lawrence, Kansas passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 after celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. He was born March 17, 1925 in Topeka, the son of Charles and Eva Haus Longaker. Harold graduated from Alma in 1943. He served honorably in both the United States Army and Navy. He was a police officer for the City of Topeka from 1953 until retiring in 1976. He married Jeanne Whitebread on October 7, 1954. Mr. Longaker was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Grace Baptist Church in Topeka, Dorsey-Liberty Post #14 of the American Legion at Lawrence, Tin Can Sailors and the Wabaunsee County Historical Society. Harold enjoyed storytelling, playing cards, and travelling with family. He cherished visiting friends in Topeka and Alma, his home place.Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Longaker of Lawrence; son Mark Thurman (Leann) of Meriden; four daughters, Vicki Lister (Wally) of Topeka, Debbie Dabney (Jeff) of Topeka, Valita Evans and Mary Bakken of Lawrence; one sister, Mabel Dixon of Eugene, Oregon; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.Mr. Longaker will lie in state from 1:00 to 4:00 pm on Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka. Visitation will be from 10:00am to 11:00am with funeral services following at 11:00am on Monday, October 13th at Grace Baptist Church, 1110 NE Michigan in Topeka. Interment will follow at Mission Center Cemetery in Topeka.
