Harold L. MacWhinnie - Affectionally known as Harry, of Stoneham, passed away suddenly on Monday, January 20, 2025, at the age of 78. Born in Malden, Harry was the beloved son of the late Albert and Eileen (Miller) MacWhinnie.
Harry proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. for 4 years and during this time he received the National Defense Service Medal and the USMC Expert Rifle Badge.
Harry had a deep love for the water. In his younger years, he found peace and joy out on his boat, fishing, and simply being surrounded by the ocean. He cherished the moments spent watching fireworks on the Charles River with his children, always finding happiness in their excitement.
Golf was a favorite pastime of Harry’s; he was also a passionate Patriots fan. He treasured his travels to Aruba with his beloved wife, Jeanne. Their weekly date nights were a cherished tradition, and Harry was always quick to boast with pride about the many years he spent with his soulmate.
Harry’s love for his family was unmatched. He was especially devoted to his beloved dogs—Queenie, Snickers, and Reeses—and took great joy in spending time with his grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
Beloved husband of 58 years to Jeanne (O'Brien) MacWhinnie. Devoted father of Suzanne MacWhinnie of Stoneham and David MacWhinnie and his wife Heather of Quincy. Cherished grandfather of Jackie MacWhinnie of Stoneham, Cody Huntington and Matthew MacWhinnie of Quincy. Loving brother of Mary Rahilly of FL, Lori Howard of TN and the late William MacWhinnie, Sally Poor, and Edward MacWhinnie. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) on Wednesday, January 29th from 9:30AM to 11:30AM. Followed by a prayer service conducted in the funeral home at 11:30AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Services will conclude with interment at Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Harry's name to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or to Wounded Warrior Project.
