Obituary

Harold “Punk”'s Obituary

Harold “Punk” Nurnberg, Jr., age 88 of Mendota, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025. Harold was born in Mendota, IL to Harold, Sr. and Marie (Kaufman) Nurnberg and had five siblings.

He grew up helping his dad on the farm just north of Mendota. After graduating from  Mendota High School in 1955, Harold joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan in 1960.  He then went on and became an operator with Local 150 International Union of Operating Engineers for over 50 years until retirement.  He was an avid toy tractor collector and passionate about antiquing. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids and was always on the go. He was a member of Mendota Elks Lodge, Mendota Moose Lodge and Mendota VFW Post 4079. 

Harold will always be remembered and missed greatly by his children, Missy Rutishauser, Greg (Michelle) Nurnberg, Marci (Jim) Parrilli; grandchildren, Connor, Marissa, Brady, Lexi, Jake, Anthony, Alyssa; one great-grandchild Nayeli; siblings, Sue Nurnberg, John (Sharon) Nurnberg, Jim Nurnberg and their families, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends.

Harold is preceded in death by his loving son, Steve Nurnberg; parents, Harold, Sr. and Marie Nurnberg; brother, Ron Nurnberg;  sister, Karen “Kay” Tomfohrde; sister-in-laws, Carol Nurnberg and Nancy Nurnberg; brother-in-law, Charlie Tomfohrde; nephew, Joe Nurnberg; niece, Lynne Weierke.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 1, 2025 at the Horner-Merritt Funeral Home, 800 Monroe Street, in Mendota from 10:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 12 pm at the funeral home before processing to Restland Cemetery in Mendota for a graveside service with military rites.
