Harold Erik Shaar

I was saddened to read of Dr. Shaar's passing. I worked with him for 10 years at Minot State University. He hired me as the first dedicated development officer working primarily with major gifts and planned gifts in addition to alumni events. He and Jane attended everything we organized. He was such a pleasure to work with. My sincere condolences to his family.

We met in Marquette MI and visited the Shaar family in every location except Minot. Erik loved walks, especially after dinner, down the road, around the block, to the big garden, etc. We even made one on a freezing New Year's Eve in Sault Ste. Marie. As much as I loved him he really pushed the envelope on that one. A dear man!

Dr. Erik Shaar was a very kind man. I enjoyed working at Minot State while he was the President. Always had an open door for students and staff.

I grew up across the street from Eric, Jane, Gretchen & Rachel. Such amazing memories of endless sleepovers & kids running around his house! He was always sweet & calm with a wonderful smile & kind heart especially when we fell asleep watching Love Boat & Fantasy Island on his bed! Eric & the Shaar family will always be associated with the innocence of youth & a simpler time. Rest in Peace Eric.

So sorry for your loss. Dr. Shaar was a great guy. I enjoyed working with him at minot State. He will be missed.
