Helen Akins, 96, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025 at Gower Convalescent Care Center in Gower, Missouri. Helen was born, March 28th, 1929 in Nowata, Oklahoma to Atlee and Grace Patterson.
Helen was united in marriage to Byron Akins on March 19th, 1987 in Hesston, Kansas.
Helen worked at the Thompson, Brum, and Kemper Clinic for several years before working at Heartland West Hospital as a surgical technician until her retirement. After retirement she provided private nursing care for several more years.
While living in St. Joseph, Helen was a member of the Carnegie Baptist Church.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bryon; daughters Wanda Fortune and Judy Ann Mallard;and grandson, Dennis Barnes. and numerous other family members. Survivors include: grandchildren, Robert Fortune, Dori Fortune. And one great niece, Taffi Dennis.
A graveside service will be held for Helen on Saturday, September 6th, 2025 at 12:00 Noon at Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Joseph, Missouri, officiated by Pastor, Velvet Sommer . A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:30 AM at Heaton-Bowman-Smith-Sidenfaden Chapel before the graveside service.
