Helen and I worked together many years ago at the Cottman Avenue branch of PSFS. I was an 18 year old recent high school graduate, and the only Black person at the branch. Helen immediately sensed my unease and nervousness in this unfamiliar environment and swept me into her heart. If I may say so, she became my "job mommy." This young, caring, dynamic, whirligig, Irish woman took excellent care of me - making sure to introduce me to her favorite customers as a new clerk and later as a teller. She would give me great advice and suggestions to help me improve my banking skills. I was transferred after about two years. Imagine my great surprise, at 74 years old, to become Facebook friends with my Colleen so many years later. That really was icing on the cake. I am just finding out about Helen's passing on February 10th. Please accept my sincere condolences and prayers.
