Henry James Macon, aka “Mit,” was born July 10, 1937 in Halifax County, North Carolina, to the late Jessie & Beatrice Macon. He passed away on Monday July 14, 2025 at Pam Specialty Hospital in Rocky Mount.
Mit joined Ivory Hill Baptist Church at an early age. Everyone that knew him knew that he was a hardworking man all of his life. He was a farmer, carpenter, he worked at the tobacco factory in Rocky Mount and he raised hogs right up until this year. Mit was a great provider for his family and he knew how to make a dollar. He never met a stranger and he believed everybody had some good in them. There was nothing he wouldn’t do to help folks and he definitely went out of his way. Mit is now with all of his brothers, hanging buddies, family, & his friends…… what a time they are having together again.
Mit was married to his wife Arlene “Mice” for 62 years on March 13, 1963 and this union was blessed with 2 wonderful children.
Mit leaves to cherish his memory a loving, sweet, & devoted wife of the home Arlene Macon; two daughters, Sharon Macon and Virgine Macon Alston; two granddaughters, Cassandra Richardson & Chaquita Smith; three great-granddaughters, Shadeja Richardson, Shaniyah Richardson & Lakyah Smith; two sisters, Pearl McGee & Lillie Macon; four sisters in-law, Madelean Evans, Eva Richardson, Marie Richardson (Sam), and Beaufort Lynch; one brother in-law, John Thomas Wright; and a huge bunch of nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.
A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Ivory Hill Baptist Church, 4505 Medoc Mountain Road, Enfield, North Carolina. Burial followed in the Ivory Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. There was a Public Viewing one hour prior to the funeral service from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm.
