Henry Roy "Skeeter" Washburn, Jr. died at home Friday, May 23, 2014, at the age of 90 after a battle with Multiple Myeloma. He lived an incredibly long, productive and active life. He was preceded in his death by his parents and his brother, Mickey Newman Washburn. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Hollon Louise Bishop Washburn; four children: Nancy Washburn Kolen and husband John Michael Kolen, Henry Roy "Chipper" Washburn III and wife Marcia Lambert Washburn, Jennifer "Jenny" Washburn Moeller and husband Chester "Chet" Charles Moeller II, and Johnny Edward Washburn and wife Jennifer Welsch Washburn; nine grandchildren: Kelly Kolen Morris and husband Duncan Morris, John Michael Kolen, Aimee Washburn Comer and husband Heith Comer, Henry Roy Washburn IV and wife Inge Washburn, Rachel Moeller Harrison and husband Brian Harrison, Chester Charles "Trey" Moeller III, William Edward Washburn, Henry James Washburn, and Emily Elizabeth Washburn; and 16 great grandchildren. Skeeter was born on March 23, 1924, in Dadeville, Alabama. After high school, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp and worked as a flight engineer for four years. Afterwards, he attended Auburn University and graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Education in 1950. He held a successful career with Liberty National Life Insurance for 34 years and after retiring was appointed by multiple governors to the Tallapoosa County Board of Registrars where he worked for 20 years. He truly enjoyed his work at the Courthouse because it allowed him to meet new residents coming into the county. He used this job as a platform to witness if the opportunity arose. He was a founding father of the Stillwaters Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department and enjoyed spending time at the fire house. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Dadeville where he taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, was a Deacon and a Trustee for the church. He loved his time at the church on visitation nights going house to house sharing the gospel. He participated in seven church building projects with Carpenters for Christ where he assisted in building churches in other states. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 9:30 am at First Baptist Church of Dadeville. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 am.
