Not sure what to say?

I just heard of Herky's passing today. I am so sorry for your family's loss oat the passing of Herky. I went to grad school at Temple with Herky and we were partners on a couple projects. Herky was s joyful sensitive, creative loyal soul. My prayers for Herky and your family.

Thank you for being there for us, for your concern and guidance in our lives, for the precious and happy moments we shared with your family albeit short. We will always remember your kind and generous spirit, always supportive and considerate. Till we see each other again...we love you

Herky, the love of my life, thank you for your unconditional love and guidance through all 42 years of our marriage. You helped our family dream of possibilities and pursue them with fearless optimism while remaining grounded in the challenges of day-to-day living. We will forever remember you and cherish the memories we built through the years. You have achieved your high school dreams: to have a happy family life and pursue your passion in film. with the added bonus of becoming a...

Thank you Lolo for your patience and making me so much better in chess. I have improved a lot and will continue on, armed with everything you have taught me. I will miss you!

Tito Herky, I will always remember you fondly. Your legacy will continue to live through all the hearts you touched. May you rest in peace and be with God.

Herky, you were always “present”, not just for Tere, Paolo, Joe, Carlo, and their families but for your extended Stat10 family, too. We will miss you at the reunions that you so dedicatedly photo-documented. Godspeed!

Herky, you were and will always be in my heart. May you rest in eternal peace in the arms of God and in the company of angels.

Tito Herky! You were always so full of life and joy. I miss the fun family parties you and Tita Tera hosted in Valle Verde and all your pakulo and games at the del Mundo Christmas parties at Nanay's house. It's the stuff great childhood memories are made of. Thank you for coming to the Philippines to attend our wedding, for asking me and Josh questions (I don't remember what they were) when you and Ninang Tere met us a few days before the day, and for welcoming us in DC when we visited. Chess was one of Herky’s biggest passions. Herky founded and led the Ashburn Chess Club, sharing his love of chess with the local community. Herky inspired his three sons to play chess. Together they traveled to Asian, US and European cities,  with his three sons competing in chess tournaments. Paolo, his eldest son, achieved master status in 1999 with Herky’s guidance and support.

Herky spent a career in cinematography, filmmaking and journalism.  He filmed the award-winning film “Pepot Superstar”, which won the Best Film award at the Cinema Malaya Independent Film Festival in Manila, and Best Actor award at the Singapore International Film Festival.  He was the producer-cinematograher of “Dreaming Filipinos”, an independent film on the subject of post-colonial identity.  This film was a winner of the Gran Prix Best Picture at the ASEAN Young Cinema Festival and was shown in Vancouver, Rotterdam and Singapore.

His latest project to be published in Amazon, “Stories to Tell”  is a compilation of the emails to the clan written by his 98 year old mother-in-law, Angelica Cabanero, showcasing the strength and character of this Filipino family through the decades.
