Ina Evelyn Jones was born in Bedford, Virginia on December 24, 1927 to the late Moses John Jones and Sophia Mattie Vivian Wright Jones. She departed this life on July 23,2014. She was the second eldest of eighteen children, having nine brothers and eight sisters: Lucy Maria Jane, Ella Elizabeth Minerva Selena, Mo- ses John Lewis, Millissie Estelle, Ellen Comenia, Howard William, Harry Elam, Willis Edward, Walter Eugene Price, James Earl, Larkie Irene, George, Richard, Hattie Bernice, Emma Louise, and Wallace Jones. Ina received her education in the Bedford County Public School. In addition, to her studies, she, with her older sister Lucy, helped care for her younger siblings and tended the farm with her parents. Ina was married to Maurice Wells and then Matthew Lowe. Those unions produced five beautiful children who have gone on to produce chil- dren, and those children even more children-all of whom continue the legacy of what Ina affectionately called "Sophia's Nation ". As a young woman Ina loved to travel. She visited places from Michi- gan to Texas to Germany. For a time, she lived in California where she worked as an Administrative Professional. Later, after coming to Balti- more, she worked as a Short Order Cook at the Schraffi's Restaurant-Ina loved to cook. She especially enjoyed baking cakes, pies, and breads. She had a passion for great music and relished the opportunity to learn new things-a legacy she has passed on to a great many in her family. Although Ina met with much heartache and tragedy in her 86 years, through it all she always managed to follow her mother's example of hold- ing on to her faith and keeping a kind heart. Time and space does not al- low us to recount all the ways that she touched the lives of those who knew and loved her. But all who knew her can attest to the indisputable truth that she was a generous, kind, and loving woman who always had an up- lifting word to share. Fashionable and elegant, a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grand and great-great grandmother-Ina will always be treasured and greatly missed.
