Irene M. Luther
Salt Lake City, UT; Formerly of Frankenmuth, MI
Irene Mary Luther (née Sanders), 82, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born March 2, 1943, to Stephanie and John Sanders in Detroit, Michigan, and grew up in Royal Oak alongside her brothers, John and Rick Sanders.
Irene married her beloved husband, Allen Luther, on June 26, 1965, at the Shrine of the Little Flower Church in Royal Oak. In 1970, the couple moved to Frankenmuth, where they built a wonderful life and raised their two children. In 2014, they relocated to Utah to spend more time with their daughter and grandchildren and to enjoy the beauty of the mountains.
By profession, Irene was a registered nurse, a calling that perfectly reflected her kind and caring nature. She was deeply dedicated to helping those around her and always sought to make a difference in the world. An avid traveler, Irene loved exploring new places with her family and creating lasting memories together. She was known for her warm smile that never quit, her natural grace, and a quiet, timeless sense of style. She was remarkably photogenic and never seemed to take a bad picture. Irene was also a skilled seamstress, talented pianist, and truly gifted singer, and music remained a lifelong passion she shared generously. Her loving, compassionate heart gave her a deep affection for both animals and people.
Her faith in God guided her life.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Allen Luther; her children, Michael (Amanda) Luther and Kathleen Luther; her cherished grandchildren, Aidan, Max, Canaan, Indira, and Bodhi; and her brothers, John (Madeline) and Rick (Colleen) Sanders.
A viewing took place Tuesday, December 30, 2025, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Legacy Village in Salt Lake City, Utah.
