Iris Marie Dejoie

Iris Marie Dejoie, age 79 passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026. Iris was born to the union of the late Julia Michel Ford and Leonidas Dejoie on April 3, 1946. She is the sister of Amaralize Gertrude Dejoie, the granddaughter of Amaralize Cuneo Bease, Henry L. Michel, Lucille Burel, and Joseph Dejoie, the goddaughter of the late Wellington Dejoie and Margarite Norwood , and great grand niece of the late Gertrude Pocte' Geddes Willis. Iris was baptized and received at Holy Ghost Church (Katherine Drexel). She and her mother were members and active participants at Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Stephen. Iris attended and graduated from Holy Ghost Elementary and Xavier University Preparatory High School. She attended Xavier University and completed a photography program at Delgado Community College. She was employed by RTA for approximately 20 years. In elementary and high school, Iris excelled in sports. She enjoyed particularly Tennis and Swimming and participated in many matches and meets. Iris spent most of her summers in at YMCA camps in Indiana and Michigan. From 1958 to 1964, she attended Forest Beach Camp in New Buffalo, Michigan. During the 1964 term, she was a CIT (Counselors in Training). Later summers were often spent traveling, and watching ESPN anytime. Iris leaves to cherish her memories her sister Amaralize Dejoie and members of the Bease, Boutte, Burel, Cuneo, Daste, Davillier, Dejoie, Michel, Pocte' and Woods families.
