Iris's Obituary

Iris was born January 22, 1950, closing her chapter and beginning our new chapter on January 13, 2024, in the Canora Hospital. Beginning this new chapter there will be a celebration of life in the coming summer of 2024. Growing up and attending school in Norquay Saskatchewan. Baba worked at Silver Leaf in Canora where she met her husband Orest and married June 29, 1968. In the following years Iris and Orest ran a drywall company, travelled, and began their family. Home was many places as they relocated for work often. (As Iris would say “has screw gun, will travel”) Finally they settled down in the hamlet of Amsterdam.     Iris started her full time career as Baba, and part time as a deli associate, you could always find her customers coming back for one last laugh before leaving the store. Her Co-op family adored her tell the day she retired. Something about her confident wit, and crazy remarks always had people laughing, because that’s what she loved to do! Or Crack a beer and converse. Through a serious conversation she would find something out of it just to make you smile. She was loved for that, and loved for many other reasons, her love for her garden, for birds, for being the Queen of)polka, and most importantly the way she loved her grandkids! With open arms she was always fully prepared with a snack off the bus or a hug to calm the tears. She was passionate about allowing kids to be kids, whether they wanted to run around in their underwear and rubber boots while its pouring outside, or feed each other mud pies. Baba would be there waiting with a warm towel and a hot chocolate. If she wasn’t already outside telling us where the best puddles were! She never forgot what it was like to be a kid. Her time on earth was full of challenges, but she always rolled through life with a smile.    Iris loved all, and was loved by many. Her contagious laugh, beautiful smile, and warm hugs will forever be missed by Orest (husband) her daughter Tricia and granddaughters Chantal (Evan), Kayla (Alex) and Courtney (Josh). (Great grandkids Aidyn and Harlee-Ann). Son Kelly (Tracey) grandkids Victoria, Skylar (Dustin), Brooklyn (Tripp), Braydon (Victoria) and Jackie (Parker). (Great grandkids Hayley, Wyatt, and Faith). Son Cary (Audrey). Siblings Lorne (Betty Lou), Joyce (Ken), Ron (Rose), as well as all nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and not to forget furbabies!    Iris is predeceased by parents Mike and Lillian, brother in law Danny, sister in law Myrna, and granddaughter Jasmine. If wishing to donate the family asks for donations to go to Yorkton District Nursing Home - Skinner Unit in Yorkton Saskatchewan, or Eaglestone Lodge in Kamsack Saskatchewan. It brought Iris great joy volunteering and sitting with the residents whether that was pinching perogies or having a cup of tea with them. The family has chosen the Skinner Unit due to her husband being there and her love for her husband. The family would like to ask for you to take a moment and enjoy her favorite song: Kiss an Angel Good Mornin’ by Charlie Pride in memory of Iris.
