Iritha's Obituary

Iritha Rose Patterson was born August 26, 1940, in Philadelphia, PA to Samuel and Mary Morland, she was the oldest of six children. She was called “Rose” by most that knew her.

She completed her academic courses at John Bartrom High School.

Rose confessed her faith in Christ at an early age.  She joined Emanuel A.M.E. in Philadelphia, PA. She sang “God’s Praises” in The Holy Shrine Gospel Singers.  Which was formed by her uncle, Edward Jacobs.  They traveled to many cities and states lifting their voices.

Rose moved to Gary, IN with her three children in 1976.  She joined Greater St. James A.M.E. Church under the leadership of the late Rev. L. James Perry.  She was a member of the Alter Guild and secretary of the Pastor’s Aide Club.

During her early years she enjoyed playing pinochle (card game), old school dancing (especially the rubber band and the cha-cha), in most recent years she was an avid word search puzzler.

Entering eternity before her were parents, Samuel and Mary Morland; sister, Gwendolyn; brother, Dennis.

Rose leaves to carry on her legacy of love and family, 3 children: Tanya, Henry (Maia) and Kevin (Kim); 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Leroy; sisters: Cheryle (Maurice) and Stephanie and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
