Kathy, just heard about Jack. What a shock. So sorry to hear. I remember all of our coffee breaks at Sentry and the interesting conversations we had. Since we were both from Rapids, we always had mutual interests. He was a great man. RIP Jack. Take care Kathy. You are in our prayers.

Jack's Obituary

Jack L. Matonich, age 69, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away September 12, 2017 after a short unexpected illness.  He was born February 5, 1948 in Loyal Wisconsin to John and Eleanor (Lindekugel) Matonich.

He graduated from Lincoln High school in 1966.  After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving for four years during the Vietnam War.

He married his wife Kathy (Eckhart) of 46 years on May 15, 1971.

In 1970 he went to work for Sentry Insurance as an Information Systems Technician, retiring in 2006.  After his retirement he worked for Rapids Ford as a driver, the fun job he really enjoyed.  And the last several years he was a faithful caregiver to his wife Kathy.

Jack lived life to the fullest.  He and his wife Kathy traveled all over the United States including Alaska and Hawaii.  He was always ready to take a thrill ride, flying over the Grand Canyon, the Dry Tortugas, the Smokey Mountains or taking a ride in a B52 Bomber.  He loved fast planes, fast boats, fast cars and fast motorcycles, all of which he had but the planes.  He loved a good party, good conversation, a good martini and Cheetos!!

Jack is survived by his wife, Kathy, sister-in-law Ginny (Jim) Steen, of Wisconsin Rapids, brother-in-law Jeff (Dawn) Eckhart, of Tierra Verde, FL, sister-in-law, Jeanne Stroh, of Kansas City, MO.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and his best pal Zoey.  Jack had many friends and appreciated all of them.  He was a good friend and will be missed by his family, friends and co-workers, but like Jack always said “It is what it is”.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Edward and Gen Eckhart, sister Pamela Heeg, brother-in-law Bob Heeg and brother-in-law Stanley Stroh.

There will be no service per Jack’s request and any donations may be designated to your local Humane Society or the South Wood County Humane Society.
