James Morgan Ayers, Jr., 95 years old, died after a brief illness June 10, 2014 at Covenant Hospice Inpatient and Palliative Care Center in Pensacola, Florida. Mr. Ayers was born April 16, 1919. He is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Allie Graham Ayers and second wife of 9 years, Ersel Ellington Ayers; his divorced mother, Elizabeth Gilmer Ayers; brothers, David, Richard and William and his sisters, Charee, Gilmer and Ann.Mr. Ayers is survived by his stepdaughters, Katherine Marie Ayers and Jessica Creek (alias Allie Francis Ayers) whom he adopted during his first marriage. He is also survived by two sisters, Morgan and Mary Alice and numerous cousins and nieces.Mr. Ayers served in the U.S. Navy and upon retirement owned and ran Ace Auto Accessories for a few years. He then worked 10 years in the Civil Service and upon retirement, he and Allie traveled the States in their Holiday trailer. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge 352 of Myrtle Grove. Best friend, Angus Comerford would drive Mr. Ayers to the monthly meetings until this past year when poor health and age caught up with Jim. Being a Charter Member, Mr. Ayers put his heart and soul into the building and support of Fairfield Presbyterian Church over the years. He, Allie and their two daughters spent many weekends helping to build the original buildings just off Mobile Highway at Fairfield Drive in Pensacola. Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home will hold a visitation for Mr. Ayers on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, June 16, 2014 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.
