James "Bo"'s Obituary

A resident of the Lawrenceville community, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2025, at St. Margaret Hospital. Born in the Strip District and raised in Lawrenceville, Bo was deeply rooted in the neighborhood he loved. Bo was a devoted member of St. Augustine Church. He was a proud graduate of Central Catholic High School, where he formed many friendships and discovered his love of sports. He also graduated from Robert Morris University.

An avid softball player, Bo’s energy and enthusiasm were well known on and off the field. Bo was a proud member of the 6th Ward Club, where he shared countless memories and friendships with fellow members.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Josephine (Wodzinski) Berkey. Bo is survived by his cousins, Donald Cinque, Robert Cinque, James Cinque, James Berkey and the late Thomas Cinque; he was the nephew of the late Francis and Zelda Berkey and William Wodzinski; Bo is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and by many close friends from childhood: Gary Noftz and Tony “Rabbits” Tedesco, people he cherished as family. His warmth, loyalty, and kindness will be remembered by all who knew him. 

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Bo at the WALTER J. ZALEWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 216 44th Street, Lawrenceville, on Friday, October 24, 2025 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral Mass at St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish, St. Augustine Church on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Interment in St. Augustine Cemetery. A celebration in honor of his life will be held immediately following at the 6th Ward Club.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustine Church or Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh in honor of Bo’s lifelong love of community and the school he loved.
