Jim was a kindhearted intelligent gentleman. He was such a caring loving husband. We felt fortunate to have him as a friend & neighbor for the past twelve years.
Our deepest sympathies to Joan and family with this tremendous loss.

The few conversations I enjoyed with Jim Bruce will remain in my memory always. He was a quiet gentleman who was well versed on the issues of the day and passionate on the matters that concerned him. He will be missed RIP my Union Brother

Suddenly, on November 25, 2022, James E. Bruce, Jr. passed away at his home in Pittsburgh. A graduate of Taylor Allderdice High School ('64) he received a Bachelor ('68) and Master's Degree in History with a specialization in Labor History from Indiana University of PA. An avid reader, he remained a student of history throughout his life. Jim worked for 25 years for the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Blindness and Visual Services. He adored his life's work, his co-workers at BVS and his Union.
Jim was a life-long Union member of SEIU Local 668 PSSU where her served as Chief Shop Steward, Executive Board member and Secretary-Treasurer. He continued to play an active role in his Union as a retiree especially enjoying political campaigns and the Labor Day Parade. In his retirement years, Jim enjoyed traveling choosing islands in the Caribbean to escape the Pittsburgh winters with his wife of 48 years, Joan. Jim and Joan shared a home in Sun City Center, Florida and were happy "snow birds". Jim's greatest loves were his wife Joan, his family and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Esther Bruce Buckley and his father James E. Bruce and is survived by his loving wife Joan Coultas Bruce, his sister Patricia Bruce Guerra, brothers Jeff and Scott Buckley, sister-in-law Sister Mary Joan Coultas, CDP and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Pittsburgh Symphony Society, the ACLU, the Sisters of Divine Providence Retirement Fund or a charity of their choosing.
