Mr. James Roland "Buck" Riggs Jr. 64, of 425 East McPherson Dr. Mebane, NC, passed away on Thursday January 8, 2015 at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill. Born in Durham County, he was the son of the late James R. Sr. and Loretta Morgan Riggs. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend to all. Mr. Riggs had 34 years in service in law enforcement, working with the Chapel Hill Police Department, the Orange County Sheriff's Department and retired as a Lieutenant with the License and Theft Division of the DMV. He was known for being a gifted musician as he was proudly the founder of the Kingswood Quartet with members Buck Riggs, Barry Collins, Jerry Gurkin, and Garland Smith. Mr. Riggs was also a proud member of the Thomas M. Holt Masonic Lodge #492 in Graham and he attended Shamrock Evangelical Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Glenda Ray Riggs, of the home; daughter, Tammy Renee Riggs, of the home; sisters, Joretta Hayes and husband Frank Jr., of Mebane, and Dawn Harris and husband Jerry, of Elizabeth City; Aunt and Uncle, Roy and Molly Stephens, of Haw River; cousins, Alan Stephens and wife Cynthia, of Haw River, and Reid Stephens, and many loving Nieces, Nephews, and Great Nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday January 12, 2015 at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane with the Rev. Mike Foust officiating. Burial will follow in Hillsborough Town Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane, and other times at the residence of the family.
