James's Obituary

“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” Proverbs 16:9

On Thursday morning, April 18, 2024, James Crocker, Jr. was following plans to finally return to his beloved earthly home on Brickhouse Court after a stay at the hospital and rehabilitation facility for several weeks. Just prior to the scheduled time for his departure James received a spiritual call.  He answered that call, and the message informed him of a new plan for the day.  He was instructed in the call to go to his heavenly home instead.  James respectfully responded to that message and said “okay.”  Without worries or pain, James is now resting comfortably and at peace in his heavenly home.

James accepted Christ at an early age at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Petersburg, VA. As a lifelong member of the church he has served as a Cub Scout Leader, member of the Male Chorus, George Crocker Senior Ministry and Church Trustee Board.

James was educated in the Petersburg City Public Schools System and was a member of the Mighty Lions football team at Peabody High School.  After graduating with the Class of 1950, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country pride until his honorable discharge. When his military career ended, James was employed with Titmus Optical, Inc. He was later employed with Allied Chemical, now known as Honeywell International, Inc., for over 30 years until his retirement.

During his lifetime, James thoroughly enjoyed traveling. He also took immense joy in celebrating birthdays, holidays and reunions with family.  Baseball and football were his favorite sports.  He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Washington Commanders.
