James (Jim) denOuden, born May 17th, 1961 (59), passed away peacefully in hospice care after a hard-fought battle with lung cancer and encephalitis on August 4th, 2020. He is survived by his wife, Linda denOuden; his mother Ria; his children and grandchildren, and many other family and friends who continue to surround his memory with care and love each day.
Jim was a consistently hard working, dedicated man. He never settled for a day in bed when he could be out in his workshop creating some of the most gorgeous pieces of furniture that now span the city of Las Vegas, and are luckily spaced around other States for those who commissioned his skillful work. He wasn’t one to slow down, always a whirl of endless energy and love for what he did. Anyone who knew him was well aware of his passion for work, his family, and his favorite NFL team, the Dallas Cowboys. His family always knew him to be the kind of man who gave as much to the people he cared about as he could, just because he could.
He leaves behind memories of a great man for his family and friends, who continue to remember the little things that made up his life and the love he surrounded others with. From his sense of humor to his knack for sports, Jim’s spirit continues to live on in the hearts and lives of those who knew him well.
With respects to Jim’s wishes and his family’s needs, kind thoughts and words can all be directed below. Please sign the guest book with messages for his family and stories that surround your memory of him. For any further condolences, such as flower deliveries, please contact [email protected] for an appropriate address. His family requests that this page be a space filled with love and honor; that it exists as a place to cherish the strong memories of Jim’s life.

This was our last photo together before you got sick. It was Christmas 2019, in Oregon with the girls.

Random memory: I Remember as kids, Katie and Els and I, would ask Jimmy to do this werewolf face, that we thot was just the funniest ever! He would show his bottom teeth, and make some scary face. I remember repeatedly asking him to do the werewolf face every time we saw him.

Jim, you and Linda are 2 of the nicest people I never met...personally. We had a lot of fun on-line. I recall you laughing as I tried to get my webcam focused on my dog years ago. I recall a brief conversation when Linda was hospitalized and I called her room and you answered. As I get older, I find that losing cyber-friends hurts as much as my other friends. M'Lord, as with M'Lady, I serve thee.

Jim and Abby, together now.

I can’t believe three years have gone by. Every day I wake up hoping it was all just a bad dream. And every day my heart breaks again. . Sometimes I feel you near me, like a whisper on the wind.
And now Abby is with you. I’m glad you were there to meet her. I told her you would be, and not to be afraid. Knowing she would be with you helped ease the pain of losing her too.
I’m trying baby. It’s not easy living without you. But I’m trying. You rest easy, my love. One day we’ll be together again. Until then, I will love you forever.

I was not graced to know Jim prior to his passing but that is not to say that his life has not left an imprint on me. I met Jim’s beautiful wife, Linda following his passing and deep in her grief we became friendssoul sisters, actually. She has shared so many stories about this wonderful man that I actually feel as though he was an old friend that I knew well. From his kindness to his talents, to the love that he shared with his wife, family and friends it is clear that Jim filled his short-lived life with so much goodness. He packed it full. They say that the good die young and this holds true when it comes to Jim for his departure came far before his time. Jim, wherever you are, you must know how terribly you are missed every single day. Somehow, I think you had your hand in my friendship with Linda. Somehow, I think it was you that put us on the path to meeting as a way to help her through her grief. You did such a fine job looking after her while you were here that your absence has left an excruciating void. Though you have transcended the confines of this world, I believe that you are always near her, guiding her along the path, sending good friends her way to help her through. I’m sure you are as proud of her for her strength as I am. RIP, dear man.

The love of my life.

Another holiday without you by my side has passed. 17 months of missing you, wishing I could turn back time and bring you back. But as the song says “I could have missed the pain, but I’d have had to miss, the dance”.
I see the signs you send me. I smile at the memories even as tears flow. I have kept your memory alive. And I hope you’d approve of the life I’m trying to live without you. But I am just counting down the days until we are together again. Until my hand is once again in yours.
Until then, I will think of you every day, miss you every night, and love you forever and always.
Linda

I first met Jim while working at Treasure Island doing a remodel. I rarely meet people who are so much fun to work with. Though it was temporary work for him, we kept in contact through the years but because we both shared the same work ethic, we rarely had time to socialize. My wife, son, and I visited the house years ago and since then we affectionately refer to him as “Canadian Jim”. Our last visit at the Stratosphere was a nice reunion and now that landmark will serve as a sweet reminder of one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. I love that o can see it from anywhere in our city! I struggle to wrap my mind around the fact that I will never get to hear his unique laugh or funny reactions again in this life. He is and will forever be missed. Thank you Linda for always taking care of my friend and I am so sorry for your loss.

To know Jimmy was to love him. Jimmy was my best friend and we caused ruckus amongst the streets in Kingston in our younger days. He ended up being my best man, and also a great friend to my wife Chantal. He was taken far too young, but if you knew Jimmy, you knew his heart of gold will continue to shine through every soul that he touched. Jim, if you’re able to see this - even though we lost touch for a while, reconnecting with you and Linda was great. If it wasn’t for facebook, we wouldn’t have been able to catch up. Linda, thank you for giving Jim a great 20 years, lord knows how happy you two were. And despite now Jim leaving earth, his heart and soul will surely stay with you.
Our Condolences,

I will definitely miss Jim’s humor and his zest for life. One of the things that bonded us together was our love for our Dallas Cowboys. I will always be amazed as to how good he was at his craft (Wood Working), and wanting to put out a good product. His memory will always be cherished!!

We met at the Eastside Cannery in the bingo room. I was your bartender/waitress and we all connected right away. You loved joking around with me and giving me a hard time. I will never forget when your wife Linda was struggling going through breast cancer and how loving you were to her. You shaved your head to match hers and that was so touching to see. I knew right away how much you loved your wife just by the way you treated her. Your marriage together was priceless. Although you guys did not come in often I was always happy to see you when you did come in. I’m so happy I met all of you and feel fortunate that Linda kept in touch with me through all this. I know we will always remain friends. I’m truly sorry I did not get to talk to you or see you before you passed away. You will be missed. Linda and family I just want to say my heart goes out to all of you during this very difficult time. May God give you strength and bring you peace.

A good man has left us. Although we never pressed the flesh, you were as good a friend as I have had through the years. As I used to say, "I serve thee, M'Lord" and I will miss that. You are painless now but we are in pain for our loss. Tell the other PGA 2K players up there that MeechMaster said hi. My prayers go to your family and I hope it helps them through this time...

I knew little Jimmy denOuden when I was best friends with his sister Lily. He was a funny and smart boy and always looking for something to do it seemed. He was never a bother, as younger brothers can sometimes be, he was just a polite easy going young boy and I know he grew up to be a fine man who will be missed by many. My condolences to his family, he will be missed terribly.

Always missed always my friend..

I knew of Jim while being supervised by his wife Linda. We would hear amazing stories of Jim getting the house and the barbecue pit ready for the PhantomEFX parties. He would pop in from time to time and Linda would tell us that it was Jim saying hello while we were on line. He was a giving soul who always made sure that Linda and her daughter and granddaughter were taken care of. He had a smile and a joke ready for those weekends when we went to Vegas. I remember the video of Jim taking that leap off the Stratosphere Hotel...something that I would never do and he had a smile on his face! He will be missed but his spirit will live on with us. I know somewhere up in Heaven there is a pit coming to life a piece of meat seasoned just right is grilling!
