ObituaryJames E. Lindsay Jr., 88James E. Lindsay Jr. passed away Sunday, November 27, 2016 at the age of eighty-eight from heart failure. He was born in Denver, Colorado on February 26, 1928 to James and Amelia Meisner Lindsay. He was the oldest of three children. At the age of 17, Jim dropped out of high school in his junior year to join the U.S. Navy during World War II. He needed his parent’s permission to join; he didn’t want to miss the war that was just months away from ending. He specialized in communications technology as a Radioman.In February of 1949 he was discharged from active duty and returned home to Colorado. With the help of the G.I. Bill, he went on to college, receiving his BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering. His first jobs were in the space industry and at the RCA Research Lab in Princeton, New Jersey. For thirty-five years he was a university professor in Colorado and Wyoming. He spent a research sabbatical in Germany and became fluent in German, which he used throughout his life.He married Elizabeth Swanland in 1948. They had five children, Linda, James, Patrick, Michael and David. They all preceded Jim in death.He married Bonnie Anita Eckhardt on July 2, 1999. He joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a High Priest. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple in 2008. Jim retired from teaching Electrical Engineering at the University of Wyoming and moved to Kinnear, Wyoming where he built two 180 foot HAM radio towers to continue his Ham Radio avocation. Fly-fishing the rivers of western Wyoming and eastern Idaho was also an avid pastime. The Lindsay’s relocated to Blackfoot, Idaho in August of 2009.He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; grandchildren, Bo (Lacey Jo) Lindsay and Amber Lindsay of Laramie, Wyoming; step-children, Gary (Pam) Eckhardt of Blackfoot, Idaho, Sandra (Jim) Hedges, Tracy (Lori) Eckhardt and Kelly (Tracey) Eckhardt of Lander, Wyoming and Troy (Cindy) Eckhardt of San Antonio, Texas. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wapello LDS Church, 337 North 200 East in Blackfoot. A viewing will be held Friday, December 2, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue inBlackfoot and one hour prior to the services at the church.
