Obituary

James's Obituary

James (Jimmy) Joel Fore entered his heavenly home on Thursday, August 7, 2025. Jimmy was blessed with many pain-free years, despite advanced heart disease and passed suddenly while on a cruise to celebrate his 88th birthday and 12th anniversary. His loving wife Meredith was at his side, as she had been since their marriage in 2013. He lived his last years happily with Meredith in their condo on the lake at Surfside Beach, his beloved dog Toby on his knee.

Jimmy was born on August 4, 1937, son of the late John Hagood and Esma Rogers Fore. He grew up on a farm in Dillon County, graduated from Lakeview High School in 1955, and served in the USAF from 1957-1961, a member of the 1370th Photo Mapping Wing. He graduated Campbell College in NC with a degree in Religious Studies in 1967, and began serving as a pastor in several Baptist churches, finally establishing Faith Baptist Church of Lancaster, SC. In 1980, he received a Master’s in Secondary Guidance and Counseling from Lynchburg College in VA and returned to Mullins, SC where he served as a Guidance Counselor at Mullins High School until retiring in 1997.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 44 years, Frances Rogers Fore. He married the newly widowed Frances in 1966, adopting her two girls, Donna and Julia, as his own, and later having a third daughter Carol. He was a devoted father, raising the girls in faith and baptizing each in their turn as they professed their belief in Jesus Christ. In his early years of retirement, he enjoyed gardening, camping with the grandkids, and teaching and preaching on occasion. Jimmy tenderly nursed Frances “like a princess” through her difficult years of Alzheimer’s at Bethea Baptist Home in Florence until her passing in 2010.

We trust that he was greeted in glory by dear big brother Albert (Dal) Delano Fore, who passed away only weeks before. Also, preceding him, a brother, Bernard Fore and sister, Joann Fore Zeminsky.

Surviving is his wife, Meredith Smith Fore, three daughters, Donna Brown (Monroe), Julia Sisco (Robby), and Carol Hegarty (Drew), and two stepsons Robert Sypolt (Teng) and Brian Sypolt. He leaves eleven grandchildren, Brittany Halligan (Ben), Jason Brown (Hannah), Erin Brown (MJ Watford, to be married in 2 weeks), Jamie Hegarty, Cameron Hegarty, Robyn Kilgore (Bruce), Joshua Sypolt, Nikki Sypolt, Alan Sypolt (Tasha), Courtney Boswell (Phillip), and Kaitlyn Sypolt. He has seven great-grandchildren, the newest having arrived just weeks ago. Also surviving, his sister, Marie Fore Daniel and many nieces and nephews in the Fore, Rogers, and Smith families.

Family Visitation will be at 1 PM, followed by a service of worship and remembrance at 2 PM on Saturday, August 16th at Pyerian Baptist Church (2813 Pyerian Road, Latta, SC 29565). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pyerian Baptist Church (where the legacy of Jimmy’s faith continues through Dr. James Orr, who, as a young pastor was an early recipient of Jimmy’s encouragement and guidance) or to a charity of your choice.
