Not sure what to say?

Lisa, I’m so sorry for your loss. J was such a great guy. His smile and laugh would light up the room. I will miss his visits to the RL I know how much he enjoyed it. May you and your girls find comfort in your family and friends during this difficult time and know you’ll see him again on the other side. He truly will be missed by all. Love Shari Wrigley

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Lisa, Fallon, Samantha, and Rori. May the love of family and friends provide you with strength and comfort.

Jay,you were always someone I trusted and believed in and you were always honest about things,I truly respected that about you.until we meet again - "May the road rise to meet you,may the wind be always at your back, may the sun shine warm up on your face, the tains fall soft upon your fields, and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand"

J, in my mind will forever be bigger than life. I will remember him as my crazy, over the top Pennsylvania boy. I will love you and your family forever. Rest in peace my friend.

Thoughts and prayers for Lisa and the girls and extended family.

Dear “J”,
I truly don’t know where to begin. I just know that I couldn’t be more proud to say I’m your sister. You have fought this disease with such humiliation and have set an example for us about determination and pride. I love you always and I totally forgive you for the practical jokes, especially where a snake was involved! Thank you for the memories until we meet again brother, know I love and miss you.

I am so sorry for your loss. J was one of a kind. My thoughts and prayers include each and every one of you.

Obituary

James's Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to our Husband, Son, Brother, Father, Uncle and Friend,

James Joseph Gurn III, at the age of 63, in the early morning hours of August 8th, 2025 passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones. After a courageous and fierce fight against MSA – Multiple System Atrophy.  May “J” be in eternal peace with our Lord Jesus.

“J” was predeceased by his father James J. Gurn Jr and Grandparents, Uncles and Aunts, and great niece Charlotte Crooks. His father and mother in-law James and Patricia Smith. And his dogs; Seamus, Liam, and Tullamore Dew who we know he is spending time with now.

He is survived by his beautiful wife Lisa (Smith) Gurn, Daughters, Fallon, Samantha (Brandon Curley) and Rori Gurn, and his latest companion his cat Jack.

Other survivors: Mother: Olive P. Gurn, Siblings: Denise & Mark Callaway, Mary Ann & Donny Quinty, Colleen Gurn & (significant other) Randy Decker, Terrence & Jen Gurn, Nancy & Casey Strohl, Michele & Scott Goff, Brother in-law: James & Inger Smith. Many nieces & nephews and great nieces and nephews. As well as his many God children who he loved dearly.

“J” was a man of many talents from Carpentry & Design, where he made dreams come true for many of his customers…. Especially his mom when he remodeled her kitchen. “J” enjoyed all holidays and made sure everyone was invited to see and admire his 20 ft. Christmas trees that we all thought he built their house around. He was always about showing their friends & family a good time and feeding them the best dishes and as much as they could eat.

He had such deep love and pride for his daughters. Each of them exemplifying a “Bit of “J” in their personalities.  His sense of humor was sometimes beyond funny – but none the less, he loved to laugh and live life to the fullest.

“J” was an avid Vikings Football fan alongside Fallon and Terry. He played VYFL & high school football and moved on to Amateur Football with the TC JETS, alongside his brother in-law Donny. He was a cheerleader to all sports events and plays and shows for his daughters.

“J” was a role model for us all in how to take the challenges of life and live everyday with strength, joy & courage beyond belief.  He was a wonderful and humble man. He will be missed by many.  We pray that you had the chance to meet him.

A special thank you to “J’s” caretaker Mary Hull, who served him with dignity and unconditional love every step of the way. They shared a brother and sister love for one another.

Amongst many friends’ “J” had, it’s only right to acknowledge his other brothers: Peter Drossos, Rick Myers, Jimmy Farrell, Joe Borelli & Greg Osborne. A special cousin, guitar playing and Jameson sipping companion, Michael Kenny.

In honor of his memory and devotion to his daughters, the family kindly asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Gurn Girl’s fund to help support their future, at NBT Bank Montrose, PA 18801.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 14, 2025 at St. Augustine Church, Brackney, PA. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Augustine Cemetery.
