Not sure what to say?

First of all I want to offer Jim's family my deepest condolences for your loss. Jim was my coworker but more importantly, he was my good friend. Jim and I sat next to each other for the last five years and we worked a majority of the time together whenever we had work in the field. We clicked right away and always had great conversations with each other. He was just 6 years older than me so we got one another's sense of humor and could relate and understand cultural references from the...

To the family: James will be remembered by so many as a GREAT GUY and friend. I worked with Jim and we both showed up at an employee training on the east coast wearing our respective Blackhawks jersey that I had to insist on a quick picture to capture the moment!! I had the honor to get to know Jim and work with him for the past five years and he always had a story about something that you knew he couldn’t make this up!! Jim was a “man’s man” who loved his family, went about his business...

My deepest condolences to the entire Hackel family. Jim was a wonderful coworker and a friend. I will always remember his kindness and witty sense of humor. He will be dearly missed.

In learning of his passing, Diversion Investigator (DI) Jim Hackel reminded me of a learned scholar giving his best to all of his work and to those DEA registrants he sought to help in controlled substance compliance matters. I had the pleasure of his sit-down visits in my office when I served as the most senior Diversion Group Supervisor (GS) in the Chicago Field Division Office following Jim's arrival to DEA Chicago in 2018. Jim asked and we discussed relevant questions, picking my brain...

I was Jim's counselor at the DEA Academy when he arrived in September of 2018. Jim was a great guy who loved football. We had many conversations while he was at the academy about living in IL and of sports. Jim graduated from the Diversion Academy in Dec of 2018 and reported to the Chicago Field Division. I had kept up with Jim over the past 5 years since he graduated and seems he was doing great at his job! May Jim Rest in Peace.

Tom/Bill and family,

Deepest condolences on the sudden loss of your brother, Jim.

May the joyful memories of Jim ease your suffering during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May God's love and grace comfort you.

Don & Dawna, Peter and Joseph Solloway

My very first friend! Wherever Jim’s mom went my mom went to with Jim and I in the backseat with no seatbelts! Jim Will always be my first friend ever! My condolences to you Tom and Bill. Jim will be missed
