James "Jim" Whitfield Balkum

Jim was in the class a year ahead of ours. My memory of him and his family was one of great respect. In later years we connected on Facebook. Jim was wonderful to organize the class reunions for all of us "older" graduates of Sweeny High School. So sorry for your loss. I met Jim at the Sweeny High School class reunion last year and had no idea he was from Pleasanton. My dad's family were farmers in Christine! He was so helpful. I'm glad to have had the chance to know him.

Jim was a great influence in my life. He gave me my first career opportunity at HBU and I will forever be grateful for his guidance early in my career. He will be missed by many.

Jim has been my best friend since the 4th grade. We talked on the phone occasionally, emailed frequently, and were planning to get together after his hip replacement recovery was complete.
I will miss him very much.
