Not sure what to say?

I was sad to hear of jimmys death. What a sweet, gentle, kind man! Do upstanding! My grandfather Arthur Coullard was brother to his mom, aunt Rose. And his wife, my grandmother Irene Lolan Coullard, was a sister to Jimmys dad. You see, a sister and brother married a sister and brother. Since my grandparents raised me, I was always with them when we visited in Alexandria. As a child, when we were on one of those visits and staying at the house in Alexandria, I remember jimmy in his Navy...

I was so sorry to hear about the loss your Dad.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. If there is something I can do for you, please let me know.
Debbie

Uncle Jimmy was always laughing and smiling. I remember the time he had come to Aunt Jeanette's for a visit. I happened to be home. What a fun time when he was around. My mom, Frances, and our family will miss this wonderful man. RIP uncle Jimmy.

One of the truly "nice guys" I've met in my lifetime. And he knew more about paint than anyone. Whenever I have a paint problem I think: "What would Jimmy tell me to do?"
My sympathies

Mr. Jimmy was a man's man. He held more integrity in his little finger than I would ever hope to achieve in a lifetime. Thank you for everything that you let Ralph and I do. God bless you Mr. Jimmy. All my love. Trent

Prayers to the family Mr. Jimmy was a great guy I will never forget him and my dad sharing stories and cutting up.

To my Great Uncle Jimmy Lolan, you and Aunt Katie both were so very nice to us. I enjoyed our road trips with Mama and Daddy when we would stop in and visit. You made us feel loved and welcomed! God Bless your Family!

I loved to hear nice stories of the good old days from Mr. Jimmy. Mr. Jimmy and Ralph's knowledge of paint and stains were the best in town. He was also great neighbor to my Grandmother, father and brother. I have very wonderful memories of Mrs. Kathrine, Mr. Jimmy and Ralph. RIP and Loving prays to them and your family.

A gentle man with a kind smile and a sense of humor that was ahead of his time. He will always have a special place in my heart. We were so blessed to have the family as neighbors and friends throughout the years.

James's Obituary

New Iberia - Graveside services will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, January 26, 2018, at Holy Family Cemetery in New Iberia for James E. “Jimmy” Lolan, 93, who passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018, in New Iberia.

Deacon Patrick Burke will officiate.

A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home.

Mr. Lolan was born and raised in Alexandria and graduated from Bolton High School. He was then drafted into the U.S. Navy in June 1943. After completing storekeepers school in San Diego, he was sent to Hawaii, where he spent twenty eight months as a yeoman on the U.S.S. YMS-101, a minesweeper based at Pearl Harbor. When World War II ended, he accompanied his ship to the Philippines where he received his orders to return to the states to be discharged from active duty. On his first day home, a friend introduced him to Katie Jackson, his future wife.

He and Katie were married on July 20, 1947 and settled in Alexandria. In 1949 he accepted an offer to become the manager of J.S. Davis Paint and Wallpaper on Main Street in New Iberia. When the owner died in 1963, he and Katie bought the paint store and renamed it Davis Paint and Wallpaper. He was known for his ability to match paint and stain colors before there were computers to do it. Once he was asked by Masury Paint Company to develop formulas for a new color deck after distributors complained that the computer generated formulas did not match the paint chips. He loved his job and his customers, and he was reluctant to retire from the business in 1998.

He was a passionate fisherman. In the 50s and 60s, he and his fishing partners spent almost every Sunday exploring the Atchafalaya Basin and the marshes of Acadiana looking for the best fishing spot. They were generally very successful.

During his final brief illness, he assured family, friends, and health care workers that he had enjoyed a good long life and that he was a very lucky guy. His friends and family know that they were the lucky ones to have had him in their lives.
