James Allen Maahs

Age ~ 88

 

James A. Maahs age 88 of Pearson passed away on February 21, 2026. Jim was the youngest son born to Rudolph and Helen (Sonnleitner) Maahs in Appleton, WI. He graduated Appleton West High School in 1955 and in March, 1957 he entered the U.S. Army. He proudly served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division in Ft. Campbell, KY. He married Nancy (Hintz) Maahs on December 28, 1957 at Sacred Heart Church in Appleton. In 1974 Jim and Nancy bought the Kair Phree Resort in Pickerel which they operated until June, 1974 at which time they moved to their home at Rollingstone Lake in Pearson. From the time Jim moved to Pickerel he was involved in community affairs. He started the Pickerel Fire Dept. and served as a volunteer EMT and fire fighter for 11 years. He was on the building committee that resulted in the construction of the addition to St. Mary's Catholic Church. He spent 17 years as the trail boss of the Tombstone Pickerel Sno-Club and was on the board of directors for 25 years. He was co-owner of North Country Video for 17 years. Jim's biggest joy was watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up and play sports. He was an avid Packers, Brewers and Badgers fan.

He is survived by 3 loving daughters. Karen (John) Kreitzer of Waukesha, WI, Jean (Randy) Hasenfuss and Janet (Paul) Homman both of Columbus, WI. He is survived by 5 grandchildren. Eric (Loni) Hasenfuss, Adam (Amy) Kreitzer, Jason (Rachel) Homman, Christina (Joe) Bourassa and Jim (Katie) Kreitzer. Also 9 great grandchildren, Alyssa Homman, Nolan, Daniel, Anna and Mallory Kreitzer, Jackson and Josephine Hasenfuss, Marshall and Hudson Bourassa and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Nancy, in September, 2024, his parents, a brother Robert and sister-in-law Carol and sister Donna and brother-in-law Ken Jansen.

His family and friends meant everything to him and he will be dearly missed. According to Jim's wishes there will be no services and his cremains, along with his wife Nancy, will be interred at St. Mary's Church in Pickerel, WI.
