James Larry “Jim” Mattingly, Jr., beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, went to be with Jesus on September 20, 2025, at the age of 62.
Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Jim grew up with a love for sports, playing baseball, basketball, and golf. He became a lifelong fan of University of Kentucky basketball. At age 16, his family moved to Macon, Georgia, where he graduated from Central High School in 1980. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Georgia College.
At 23 years old, Jim gave his life to Christ, a decision that shaped every part of his journey. In 1989, he married his college sweetheart, Linda, and together they raised their daughter, Rachel.
Jim was the founder and owner of Payroll Solutions in Macon, Georgia, for 11 years before he and his family relocated to Florida in 2002. He worked in the finance department at Windermere Baptist Church and later pursued a Master’s Degree in Special Education from the University of South Florida. With a servant’s heart and a gift for teaching, Jim dedicated nearly 18 years to Orange County Public Schools, where he impacted countless students’ lives with patience and care.
Jim is preceded in death by his mother, Peggy Jean Thresher Mattingly. He is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Linda Mattingly; his cherished daughter, Rachel Mattingly Thomas (Ryan); his father, James Larry Mattingly, Sr.; his sister, Sandy Black (Clayton); and his nieces and nephews: Christina, Kavon, Meagan, and Kelsey. He is also remembered fondly by many cousins, aunts, uncles, and dear friends.
