James's Obituary

James M. Osborn, 75, of Concord, MA passed away on July 24, 2025. Born January 8th, 1950, in Lock Haven, PA, he was the son of the late Walton and Margaret (Mckinley) Osborn.

Jim received a B.A. in Biology from Clarion University (now Penn West) and an M.S. degree in Environmental Science from Drexel University.

He enjoyed a professional career with Sargent & Lundy (Chicago, IL) 1972-1985, Metcalf & Eddy, now AECOM, (Wakefield, MA) 1985-1999, and Alternative Resources, Inc. (Concord, MA) 1999- Present.  While in Chicago he pursued evening classes at Northwestern University and Illinois Institute of Technology culminating in his registration as a licensed Professional Engineer by examination.

Jim joined ARI, a consulting firm in environmental resource management in 1999, was named President of the firm in 2005, and became owner of the company in 2013.

Jim served as a trustee of the Spillway Condominium Association where he enjoyed tending the flowers at the front of the building.  He was an active participant in community gardens at East Quarter Farm and Cousin Field in Concord.  He was also an active member of Anytime Fitness in Acton.  He enjoyed reading daily newspapers each morning at Concord Teacakes and reading non-fiction books on the front porch of the condominium.  He also enjoyed reading at the Acton Coffee House during the Winter, amassing a personal library of historical, business and science titles.

Jim is survived by sons Greg Osborn (Lynnfield, MA) and Zack Osborn (Salem, MA), daughters in law, Melissa and Marijana (Maya) Osborn, three granddaughters (Emilia, Sofia, and Adeline), and former wife Judy Osborn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Michael T. Osborn, sister Elizabeth Dishong (Jaffrey, NH), three brothers John W. Osborn, Mark A. Osborn, and Thomas M. Osborn, and his grand dog Bosko.

As Jim did not believe in organized religion, there will be no funeral service officiated by a Pastor. A celebration of his life is planned for September 6th, 2025, at Spinelli’s 10 Newbury St. (Rt. 1 South) Peabody, MA 01960 from 1-5pm.  The celebration will be a real “ripper” so in Jim’s honor please do not drink and drive.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to Concord Public Library, 129 Main St. Concord MA 01742

Arrangements under the direction of the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home, Reading.
