Jim and I grew up together, often walking to school together. He had me take over his paper route when he got too busy. Jim was always my friend.

James M. Overly, 78, of Somerset, formerly of Scottdale, passed away at 6:29 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2020, in Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital, Johnstown. Jim was born May 2, 1942, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Clarence Overly and Betty (Burduf) Overly Kidwell. A proud veteran of the Vietnam War, he served as a machinist mate 1st Class in the Navy and will be sadly missed by his loving family, his three children, James M. Overly Jr. and wife Christine, of Washington, Jamie Kordich and husband Charles, and Traci Eadie and husband Rob, all of Uniontown; his five grandchildren, Ashley Petrone, Seth Williams, Tyler Eadie, Jordan Eadie, and Logan Kordich; his sister, Dorothy Weimer, of O'Fallon, Mo.; his brother, Jack Overly, of The Villages, Fla.; and several nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, John Kidwell. Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale (724-887-5300 / www.fergusonfunerals.com / GPS: N40 degrees 06.136, W79 degrees 35.278). Family and friends will be received from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Scott Leichliter officiating. Graveside committal service and interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park. The Scottdale-Everson Honors Guard will bestow full military honors prior to the funeral service on Monday morning.
