Many fond memories of Tom and my early years at Memorial Baptist. He was a fine man!

Eva and family thoughts and prayers be with you all Mr.Owens , later in life he asked me to call him Tom , Tom was hands down one the best teachers , mentors and honor to call him friend , i have always when thought or heard Tom's name produced a BIG Smile i hope he felt the same . So sorry to hear of Tommy''s passing. Mom and Dad always spoke highly of him. I am sure all the Owens are having a big reunion in heaven.

Mrs. Owen, BT and family- I am sorry for your loss of Mr. Owen. He was such a good person. I had the pleasure of knowing him through our church at DUMC and at NRCC. You are in my thoughts and prayers and am wishing you comfort and healing at this sad time.

James's Obituary

James Thomas “Tom” Owen, Jr., 76, of Dublin, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016. He was a member of Dublin United Methodist Church. He was a teacher with Pulaski County Schools for 15 years and retired from New River Community College as Job Placement Coordinator with 23 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, James, Sr. “Tom” and Helen Cole Owen; two brothers, Fred and Marshall Owen; brother-in-law, Vernon Shanholtz.

Survivors include his wife, Eva M. Owen of Dublin; son and daughter-in-law, Brian Thomas “B.T.” and Michelle Owen of Kernersville, N.C.; grandson, Jacob Ryan Owen; grand daughter, Emily Paige Owen; nephews and their spouses, Jerry and Joyce Owen of Dublin, and Ricky and Linda Owen of Texas; niece and her husband, Martha and Charles Damron of New River; and sisters-in-law, Mary Shanholtz and Catherine Cox and husband Butch White.

The family will receive friends from 12 until 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the Dublin United Methodist Church. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. with Rev. Don Hanshew officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Dublin United Methodist Church, PO Box 544, Dublin, VA 24084
