Passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at Wellspring Lutheran Home after a lengthy illness; age 87 years. Jim was born on June 8, 1938 in Gilford, MI to the late Norbert and Theresa Schafer. He was married to Joanne on November 18, 2014; she survives him.

Jim was employed in sales at Graybar Electric until his retirement. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Birch Run. He enjoyed oil painting, stamp collecting, and traveling.

Surviving besides his wife Joanne are: stepdaughter Ann (Randall) Clark; step-grandchildren Sarah (Josh) Randall and Cole (Diana) Davis; step-great-grandchildren Ariel and Elena Davis; two half-brothers Harry (Sara) Schafer and Gregory Schafer; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his first wife Bette Schafer and his sister Judy (Dan) Stein.

Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 8101 Poellet St, Birch Run, MI. Rev. Sue Trinklein will officiate. Jim’s family will receive visitors on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to a charity of donor’s choice.
