James Lee Warr passed away peacefully at his home in the early hours of February 7, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He lived a life filled with faith, adventure, laughter, and service. Jim loved God and devoted his life to serving Him. His greatest joy was his family and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Jim was born in Salt Lake City, the oldest of six children, to Noel and Mary Warr. He grew up in a loving home and was a long-time member of the Belvedere Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. From a young age, he developed a deep love for the outdoors, frequently hiking and fishing with his father and brothers.
After serving a Spanish-speaking mission for the Church in Texas, Jim met his eternal companion, Myrna Lee Fish, at Brigham Young University. They were sealed in the Logan Utah Temple, beginning a marriage rooted in love, devotion, and faith. Together, they served faithfully in six Church missions—three domestic and three abroad—strengthening countless lives through their example. Jim loved the temple and attended weekly until recent health limitations prevented him from doing so. Throughout his life, he strove to do whatever God asked of him. He carried an extra Book of Mormon with him whenever he traveled, eager to share it with others he met.
Jim was a devoted husband, cherished father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and an enduring example of strength to his loved ones. Known for his great sense of humor, Jim loved laughter, comedy, teasing, and being teased. His family especially enjoyed watching him watch movies—his infectious laughter was often more entertaining than the show itself.
He enjoyed taking his family on camping trips and vacations, with Flaming Gorge as a favorite destination. One treasured memory is listening to him play the guitar around the campfire. Jim found peace and joy in the outdoors through gardening, hiking, camping, and gold mining. He held several mining claims in Northern Utah and spent most Saturdays for many years at those mines—perfect places for his children to play outdoors and spend time with cousins each week. His love of the outdoors and adventurous spirit will live on in his posterity. His children consider him the best dad ever!
A lifelong learner, Jim earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Husbandry, with a minor in Geology, from Brigham Young University. He was an earnest and prolific scholar of the Gospel and authored three books based on years of deep study and research. He learned the art of saddle making from his father and practiced that for many years alongside his full-time employment. He loved researching family history and performing the temple work of his ancestors. He devoted countless hours to that pursuit, including traveling to Europe to find records and graves of ancestors.
Beyond his family and church service, Jim contributed to his community as a member of the Riverton City Council and as Mayor from 1989 to 1993. He believed deeply in serving others and worked diligently to improve the lives of those around him.
Jim will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering faithfulness, and the way he loved everyone he met. His legacy endures through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, humor, music, and faithful example as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Noel and Mary Warr, and his sisters, Judy and Nola. He is survived by his loving wife, Myrna; his nine children, Sara DeWitt (Renn), Russell Warr, Catherine Callison (David), Rebecca Richardson (Joseph), Linda Merkley (Chad), Richard Warr (Melissa), Deborah Ayala (Alfonso), John Warr (Sarah), and Sharon Wilkinson (Mark); 42 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Steve, George, and Charlotte.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
