James “Bucky” Medford Weathers, 84, of Hampton, VA, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025. Born in Charlottesville, VA, Bucky spent much of his life in Pittsburgh, PA, before relocating to Hampton in 2003 with his beloved wife, JoAnn, where they made a home together for many years.
Bucky proudly served his country with honor, first in the United States Marine Corps for four years, and later with the United States Air National Guard for 20 years, contributing to Operation Desert Storm. He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1991 after 24 years of distinguished service to the Armed Forces. His commitment to service continued throughout his life, including a 20-year career with the United States Post Office in Pittsburgh, PA, from which he also retired.
Bucky was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Weathers, to whom he was married for 37 ½ years. He is survived by his children, James M. Weathers, Jr., Christine Pritchard, Anthony Weathers and Aaron (DeAnne) Weathers; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
The family invites those who wish to view Bucky, to visit anytime from 12pm-5pm on Monday, October 6, at Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions, 2609 Cunningham Dr. in Hampton. A graveside service with Full Military Honors will be conducted 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 7 at Albert G. Horton Jr Memorial Veteran’s Cemetery, 5310 Milner’s Rd., in Suffolk.
