Jane Elizabeth Wagner, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful servant of her church, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on December 5, 2025. Jane was born in Gainesville, Texas on September 10, 1944, to Robert Samuel and Mamie Louella (Morris) Nichols.
Jane graduated from Gainesville High School. On June 7, 1963, she married the love of her life Jimmy Earl Wagner in Gainesville, Texas. They made their home in Denton, Texas where they raised their two daughters. Later in life, she continued her education at North Texas State University (UNT). After the girls were grown and had moved away, she and Jim moved to Sanger where they became members of the First Baptist Church. Her devotion to the Lord was evident through her quilting ministry, food ministry, teaching Sunday School, GA’s, and serving on various committees.
Jane dedicated over twenty-six years to the Denton Independent School District, beginning at Denton High School before serving as secretary at Newton Razor Elementary and later at Borman Elementary, where she remained until retirement. Her greatest joy was her family, and she cherished every moment spent with her husband and children, and being “Nonie” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Samuel and Mamie Louella (Morris) Nichols; mother-in-law, Pearl Wagner; father-in-law, Leroy Wagner; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert Nichols, Jr. and wife Sandra, brother-in-law, Charles Wagner, and son-in-law, Jeff Richardson. Those remaining to cherish her memory are her loving husband Jim of Sanger; two daughters, Stephanie Wagner Escobedo and husband Felipe of Sanger and Staci Wagner Jones and husband John of Oak Point; brother, Sam Nichols and wife Kelly of Gainesville; two sisters, Patsy Christie and husband Phil of Dallas and Susie Comer of Gainesville; Six grandchildren, Beth Epting and husband Mitch, Brian Richardson, Molli James, Nina Hill, Holly Escobedo, John Escobedo and fiancée Kendel Michels; five great-grandchildren, Kayden Epting, Emma Epting, Weston Hill, Seth Hill, and Adalyn Hill; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, also surviving her.
She held her friends and family close to her heart, treasuring each relationship.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am Friday, December 12, 2025, in the Pavilion at the Sanger Cemetery. Pastor Tracy “PaPa” Epting will be officiating the service.
