Janet L. Spitzer JOHNSON — Janet Laura Spitzer, 76, of Johnson, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Copley Hospital in Morrisville, surrounded by the love of her family.Janet was born on March 4, 1950, in Morrisville, the daughter of Raymond H. and Elinor E. (Ruggles) Spitzer. She attended Johnson public schools and spent most of her life in the community she called home.As a young woman, Janet worked at the Charlmont Restaurant in Morrisville. She later worked in the kitchen at Johnson State College before beginning a long and memorable career at the Tea Room and kitchen at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe. Janet worked there for more than 30 years before retiring in 2014.Janet was known for her spirited personality and quick wit—a true spitfire who could light up a room with her humor and honesty. Above all else, Janet loved her family. She cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and took great pride in watching her family grow through the years.Some of her happiest moments were the simple ones—taking long drives through the beautiful Vermont countryside with her car companion, Ralph Cleary, enjoying the changing seasons, and especially admiring the fall foliage she loved so much. She also treasured her longtime friend Phil Demke, with whom she spoke every week, sharing laughter and stories that brought her great joy. Family gatherings meant everything to Janet, and she always looked forward to getting everyone together, especially for the Mother’s Day barbecues that became a cherished tradition.Janet will be remembered for her strong spirit, her laughter, and the deep love she had for her family and friends. She leaves behind countless memories that will continue to bring smiles to those who knew and loved her.She is survived by her two children, Laurie (Donald Jr.) Domina of Highgate and Michael (Crystal) Spitzer of Hyde Park; her siblings Allen (Robin) Spitzer of Hyde Park, Donald Spitzer and David Spitzer, both of Johnson, and Andra (Kenneth) Smith of Hyde Park.She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: April Lambert (fiancé Shawn Corbiere) of Highgate, Donald Domina III (significant other Amelia Reiter) of Highgate, Amber (James) Record of Tennessee, Richard Spitzer of Hyde Park, John Spitzer (Brittany) of Johnson, and Chelsea Spitzer (fiancé Tyler King) of Hardwick; as well as six great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.Janet was predeceased by her parents, Raymond H. and Elinor E. (Ruggles) Spitzer, and by her brother, Raymond Spitzer Jr.A celebration of Janet’s life will be held in May 2026, with the date and time to be determined.
